 Maya to WireFusion

For this guide lessons we are working with Autodesk Maya 7.0 but you can achieve this with Maya 5.0, 6.0, 6.5 also.

To be sure you can working with Maya and Wirefusion you must check out if you can baking textures with your Maya version.

To understand rightly the goal of this guide you must be familliar with Maya and/or 3D applications, Wirefusion and know basic working with.

 

Lesson 2 – Maya installing plug-ins :

Now you have setup your basic scene to working with Maya and Wirefusion, you must install and loading plug-ins to export your project from Maya to VRML2 and X3D file format.

First you need to go over Internet to the website : http://rawkee.sourceforge.net this plug-in enable X3D export file format from Maya.

This plugin is Open Source so you can use it freely.

Select and download the right version of the plug-in for you Maya version, when the plug-in is downloaded double click on this installer icon and install it into your Maya installation folder.

Now the Rawkee plug-in is installed, go to Maya menu Window -> Settings/Preferences -> Plug-in Manager, this plug-in manager enable to load/unload and autoload plug-ins at Maya startup.

When the plug-in Manager window is open, check the Mayatomr, vrml2Export and x3d is loaded and autoloaded, if not, please check the both box of this 3 plug-ins.

Note : Maya PLE cannot load Plug-ins like VRML2 Exporter or Rawkee X3D, you need at least Autodesk Maya complete.

  • Mayatomr enable to render Maya project with Mentalray
  • vrml2Export enable to export Maya scenes to VRML2 file format
  • x3d enable to export Maya scenes to X3D (VRML 97) file format

It's now time to save your work and setup root folders of your projects !

When that's done the needed plug-ins to work with Maya and WireFusion is ready to use and you can go to lesson 3.
